Surreal Life Indeed: "Hammer is Now Following You on Twitter"

Hammer is now following you on Twitter

This image is probably illegible and I am already spending more time than is appropriate documenting it so I'm not going to re-crop it. But the gist of it is I just received an email letting me know that "Hammer is now following you on Twitter".

While I'm not entirely surprised at this since I did follow Hammer first, after learning from the Zappos CEO that he was on Twitter. But still, if someone told me back in 1990 that (1) I'd be on Twitter in 18 years and (2) the guy who dropped "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" on my world would someday be 'following' me on Twitter, I think I would have passed out cold in my Marithe + Francois Girbaud pinch rolled jeans

My New Roberto Clemente Shirt Has Arrived

Not sure exactly why I was prompted to buy this last week. I think I read an article about him that reminded me of how classy he was, so I went looking for a biography of him and found a t-shirt along the way. Regardless, it's sweet.

Another Reason Why I Love The Economist

Peter Schrank illustration for the Economist

Much of it is admittedly over my head (or beyond my depth, if you prefer) and by no means am I able to read as much as I would like on a regular basis, but nonetheless The Economist is by far my favorite publication. Today, much to my delight, I caught up with a column from the April 12th issue in which Idiocracy gets a much deserved shout out as Lexington underlines the foolishness of the United States' asinine immigration policy (which is rightly characterized as "national self-sabotage"). Problem is, too many people are too stupid to comprehend the ramifications of the policy (and that reinforces the brilliance of the reference, no?).

Well played, sir.

Bat Update: there was no need for alarm-

Bat Update: there was no need for alarm-luggage sticker came off nice and easy. My best $10 souvenir ever is in tact.

Got My Bat from Cuba

Got My Bat from Cuba. TACA got it on a special flight from MGA and then messengered it to my office. That's the good news. The bad news is it has a baggage tag stuck to it, covering maybe 67% of its length. Still, I'm glad to have it and lay the blame for this hassle on an overly aggro Cuban airport staffer rather than on anyone @ TACA.

And Then Traffic on 90 Sux ...

Rarely See ORD this Empty

Rarely See ORD this Empty. Except @ 11pm on a Friday night after a 2 hour delay from LGA - on a beautiful 70 degree sunny day.

About to board for ORD

About to board what appears to be a crowded AA363 to ORD.

Cool Harlem Mural

Cool Harlem Mural - @ Centro de la Paz on E. 124th St. Seen from cab on way to LGA.

UPDATE 4/28/08: After checking a search query that led someone to visit this post ("harlem murals") I found this slide show of murals in East Harlem. Might be of interest.

Pretty sweet focus group facility here in Portland

Seriously, sir, get a cell phone.

Guy struggling with pay phone @ ORD

This guy has been wrestling w/ that pay phone for 5+ minutes, kneeling for most of it.

Today: focus groups in Portland.

Today: focus groups in Portland. Looking forward to it - always interesting. Too bad it's only an in-and-out trip b/c Portland's nice.

Interesting Absolut ad

Absolut In an Absolut World ad - Mexico & U.S. borders

Absolut Vodka apologizes for this ad // Current

Would be something if the brand all of sudden reclaimed some lost coolness b/c it is no longer being called/bought by small-minded reactionaries who are demanding Absolut apologize for this. Fewer brand impressions of backwards thinking knobs holding your product = addition by subtraction.

UPDATE: 4/8/08
Just learned more of the backstory on this and the depth and breadth of idiotic, xenophobic mob-think is worse than I thought.

Check out the comments in both places. Some reasonable people, but seems to be a greater share of stupefying bleats from jackasses who are the very embodiment of what limits this country / the human race. Who mates with these people and keeps their sorry seed in the gene pool?
